Tesla is Releasing Their Solar Roof
Tesla just announced their pricing for their Solar Roof photovoltaic tiles and they are approximately $21.85 per square foot. That is nearly a 20% difference in price with a regular roof.
Tesla’s sought-after Solar Roof tiles are made of glass layered over a photovoltaic substrate, and they serve as a replacement for traditional roofing materials. This ensures they look like a ‘real thing’ from the ground – even though they accomplish much more than a standard roof.
Tesla currently has two different tile styles available for pre-order; textured black glass tile and smooth grey tile. The Tuscan and slate tiles will be available for installation at the beginning of 2018.
According to Tesla, Solar Roof installation will take anywhere between 5-7 days. Tesla manages the entirety of the process themselves. The Solar Roof tiles are economically applaudable.
The company is offering an infinite warranty for the tiles. A Tesla representative told Inverse, “We offer the best warranty in the industry – the lifetime of your house, or infinity, whichever comes first”.
The Tesla Solar Roof is going to be stronger than the traditional roof. It is going to be much sturdier and be able to withhold strong winds and thunderstorms.
Consumers who purchase this roof will also receive the forthcoming Powerwall 2.0. The Powerwall 2.0 is a battery storage device that has a built-in energy inverter.
